FAQs

Q: What is the best way to water plants while I'm away?
A: Use a pressure-fed watering system that supplies water only when your roots draw water out of the soil. EcoDripper is the only such device on the market. Other watering devices such as globes, timers, irrigation lines and spikes do not respond to your houseplants' need for water and can overwater causing root rot.

Q: How do you make a homemade watering system?
A: The problem with homemade watering systems is that they typically rely on gravity and will likely overwater your houseplants. Many plant lovers have accidentally drown their plants by rigging up some type of watering method in an attempt to care for their plants when they are gone. EcoDripper responds to your plants need for water as the roots draw water out of the soil. It takes the guesswork out of how much water your plants need.

Q: Do watering globes work?
A: Watering globes are gravity-fed devices that slowly leak water into your plants' soil without responding to the root's need for water. They clog easily and can overwater your plants. EcoDripper is the sure way to know your plants receive the exact amount of water they need as their roots draw water from the device's "pond" of fresh water.

Q: How do you make a self watering bottle for plants?
A: The short answer is, you don't! We've done the research, engineering, design and manufacturing of the only reliable, self-watering device. Just spin EcoDripper on to any filled bottle with a half-inch neck and insert it into your plants' soil near the roots. It's that easy.

Q: Why isn't water coming out of my EcoDripper?
A: The most common solution is to make sure your haven't screwed on the bottle too tight! Spin EcoDripper on the bottle and when it stops, back it off a quarter turn. That usually solves the problem.

Q: What makes EcoDripper different from other watering devices?
A: Hose drippers and gravity-fed devices like watering globes and spikes can drown your plants' roots. EcoDripper is a pressure-fed device that allows your plants' roots to draw only the water they need. This takes the guesswork out of how much water your plants need.

Q: What kind of bottle can I use with EcoDripper?
A: Any bottle with a half-inch tall threaded neck. We recommend using our EcoBottle and EcoCover.

Q: How long will a 20-oz bottle last for watering my plant?
A: It depends on how big your plant is but most of the time, it lasts about one week.

Q: Can I use more than one EcoDripper for watering my plant?
A: Yes. Theoretically, if one bottle will last a week, two bottles should last about two weeks.

Q: Can I use EcoDripper for watering my outdoor potted plants?
A: Yes!

Q: Will plant food dissolved in water work with EcoDripper?
A: Yes, if the plant food totally dissolves in the water and remains that way. If the plant food separates in the water, it may clog the EcoDripper. We highly recommend using our EcoPlantFood.

Q: How long will EcoDripper last?
A: Under normal conditions, EcoDripper should function properly five to ten years.

Q: What if I don't like the look of the bottle in my plant's pot.
A: Check out our EcoCovers that camouflage your watering bottle.

Q: Do you have a smaller size EcoDripper for small plants and pots?
A: We are currently working on a smaller version. Stay tuned!

Q: Will EcoDripper work with multiple plants in one pot?
A: Yes, but the water in the bottle may be used up more quickly.

Q: Will EcoDripper work if I try to start a plant from seeds?
A: No. EcoDripper works because an established plant's roots draw water from the bottle through the EcoDripper.

Q: Does it matter what size of bottle I use with EcoDripper?
A: As long as the bottle has a half-inch tall neck and you can keep it up straight, it will work fine. You can even use a two-liter Coke bottle, for example.

Q: What's the right way to use EcoDripper?
A: Spin the EcoDripper onto your bottle with a half-inch tall neck until it stops. Do not over tighten or it will leak. Insert the EcoDripper/bottle into the plant's pot so that the tip is aimed at the roots and you're done! Note: It's best to have the bottle as vertical as possible. Up to a 20-degree lean angle is acceptable.

Q: Why is the top of my pot's soil so dry with EcoDripper?
A: When you use EcoDripper the action happens below the dirt's surface. EcoDripper only supplies the water the plant's roots need at the roots. Chances are if the soil on top of your pot is wet, you are overwatering your plant.
